With views from all levels to die for, the brief was simple: divide an existing terraced house into a first floor flat and an overlying duplex that takes full advantage of the 180 degree views from the front facade. The design methodology does away with the plan and uses the volume and the section as the main design tool. Living spaces are treated as independent volumes, each shifted to a different level to provide the back volumes with an opportunity to get a glimpse of what the north face has to offer. The result is a multi-level, multi-volume, very vertical house looking northwards.
