The Brewhouse in Imrieħel has been regenerated into a series of contemporary working environments that use the architecture of the site as the basis for each team’s own needs. Amongst the brands that have recently moved to the site is online gaming operator Mr Q, who engaged Forward Architects with the fitout of their new office.
The workspaces are situated around central atria which funnel abundant light into the different areas of the project. Whilst the main two wide areas have been populated with work stations, the two traversal corridors have been converted into a communal kitchenette and smaller more intimate, individual breakout spaces. With contrasting materials and colour palette, the office offers a spectrum of different environments for their collaborative team structure.
The office is laid out beyond two original timber doors, which were retained and lead onto the historic vats which were integral to the Farsons Brewery. These are heritage objects which could not be altered in any way, and therefore became the footprint by which all other workspaces were organised. These include individual desks, a large sunken-in seating space and a communal working table. Details across the office include the bespoke carpentry, borrowing from the curved nature of the original vats; the extendable table which makes the space increasingly more functional, and the purposely designed light fittings which create a surface above the entire working environment. The meeting rooms allow for an isolated space which again echoes the vats structures that the building came with.
The natural light which is incident on the working areas makes for a pleasant working environment with ample visibility of the whole team at work. The clients were interested in a space which emulates their collaborative work culture and serene team spirit. The team at Forward Architects had this as their priority when laying out the foundations for this project.
